Milk thistle can be used to mitigate damage from cancer. It is often taken along with chemotherapy drugs. Milk thistle is most effective in treating prostrate, cervical and breast cancers.
Milk thistle can also be of aid to a cancer patient because it repairs or prevents liver damage sustained while the patient is undergoing chemotherapy. A recent study conducted at Columbia University observed children with leukemia. The researchers gave a group of children milk thistle for cancer and gave a control group a placebo drug while undergoing chemotherapy treatment. The scientists found that the group who received milk thistle had fewer liver toxicity complications than the control group after their chemotherapy regimen was over.
Also, a topical form of milk thistle can work to prevent skin cancer when applied to the skin along with sunscreen.
